Dust Shield

http://www.brakedustcover.com/pontia...e~kwheels.html
Are they worth it?
Has anybody tried them?
Do they work?

Twister97 02-08-2005 12:43 PM

I think they work. I know I need something bad

dblack1 02-08-2005 12:54 PM

i gotta know, cause my wheals look like they need cleaning far before my car does...

vital49 02-08-2005 01:12 PM

Somebody posted a pic of some in Your Ride a while ago. Was it "dbeast"? I think it was....

MOS95B 02-08-2005 02:09 PM

35 bucks a pair??? 70 bucks for four plastic paper plates??

I think I'll just wash my wheels, thanks....

i would only need a pair, i have drum brakes in the back

tagurit 02-08-2005 07:07 PM

I only paid $15 plus tax @ a Miami Pep-Boys. That was for a set of 4. Only problem I had with those were, if they were bent or out of shape, they scraped against your wheels. After that, I took them off........

Merlin 91/97 02-08-2005 09:08 PM

Wouldn't it hide your brakes from view?

I've got nice rotors and painted calipers, I don't really want to hide them behind ugly metal.

tagurit 02-08-2005 09:51 PM

Yeah...they hide them. Another reason that I took them off. Rather just clean with Eagle One A2Z wheel cleaner myself.

CSFiend 02-08-2005 10:25 PM

Or here's an even easier solution!

Get ceramic pads!

I have them on my ghetto gold crosslace, and they NEVER get brake dust on them. Heck, when I wash my car, all I really have to do to clean them is just spray them with water and wash the dust off.

I'll back that up. The only crap on my wheels is the dirt from the road.

True, but wouldn't look odd to have 2 wheels "blacked out" and the drum showing through the other two?

Either way, 35 bucks a pair is a lot for plastic...

laydbaak 02-13-2005 10:59 PM

Just get some Mequires wheel cleaner. Spray it on, rinse it off. I use it on my cross laced rims in between washes. I also use Mequires tire dressing afterwards. Great stuff.

I have herd that you can spray the wheels with antistatic spray it will help to keep the dust from sticking

Merlin 91/97 02-13-2005 11:19 PM

anti static spray? like what?

ron350 02-14-2005 12:56 AM

OK what brand of Ceramic Pads are you guys using.
Not trying to change the subject from “dblack1” Dust Shield topic but Ceramic sounds like a better solution.
So far I have only read about Raybestos QuietStop and Morse Ceramic from AutoZone.

CSFiend 02-14-2005 01:05 AM

Caramic is a far better solution -- no dust, no squealing, last longer...

I think mine came from NAPA.

OLBlueEyesBonne 02-22-2005 08:42 PM

So true. I bought your pads at Auto Value in St Cloud.
I bought the ceramics I put on my 1998 SSE at Carquest here in Sauk Centre. I believe they were both Raybestos -at least the set on the SSE is.
I have yet to see my front wheels get dirtier than the rear wheels. :D My back wheels get soo much dirtier compared to the fronts now.
BTW, I only paid $45 for the set from Carquest. A steal considering I paid $69 at Auto Value in St. Cloud for the set on the your 1994 SLE Jay.

OLBlueEyesBonne 02-22-2005 08:47 PM

Oh yeah, I forgot -if you get Raybestos make sure the part # starts cmx####.

In fact, I believe most brake pad makers start the part # for their Ceramic pads like that. I know when I called around to find who sold the cheapest ceramics they all told me the part # for the pads, and the makers (various makers but I don't remember them all) and from the 3 or 4 different brands of ceramic pads available at local parts stores they all started with cmx....
