has anyone ever attempted to do this repair?
I have a 1993 Bonneville SSE... the turn signal lever broke off at the base. I figure I am going to have to take the steering wheel off to fix this, but I'm totally sure yet. Anyone ever try to fix this?

I'm just curious to know if this can be fixed without taking out the airbag module and taking off the steering wheel.

O'Reilly'* Auto parts near me rents (for free) a steering wheel removal kit that makes this job way easier. You do need a good manual, and you need to be careful to follow the disarming instructions for the airbag carefully, but once that is done, it is just a matter of working your way down to the broken piece and replacing it. You need to be careful that you don't stress or break any of the myriad of wires. But, if you are patient and careful, you can get it done yourself.
This will not be a cheap fix in a shop, because the job is time consuming.

This job is much too expensive to have it done by the dealer. It would cost more than the price of my car I'd bet... [as I approach 200,000 miles]
