Default Blower motor vent tube probs

I was able to change the blower motor in the 93 tonight. Not too bad of a job with one exception: the rubber part that comes out from the blower motor housing that inserts in to the vent tube crumbled into a course black powder upon touching it. A bad case of dry rot it seems. Now I have a 3/4" or so hole open in the housing and the motor is no longer vented except for ambient air. The air flow is also decreased as a result of the opening.

Damned if I can figure out how this actually worked. It appears like the rubber on the outside of the housing included the protrusion over which the vent is placed but it dosent look replaceable.

I'm looking for some insight, tips or a factory diagram that might show what needs to be done to correct.

I'll try to post a pic or two tomorrow to help.

Here'* what I was talking about:

There used to be a rubber protrusion to connect the blower motor vent tube. I think I figured it out though. At the parts store today, I sorted trough the PCV grommets they had and chose one for an AMC. HELP! # 42059. This has a grove diameter of roughly 7/8" and an inside diameter of 5/8". I also went to the hardware store and picked up a comperssion union that connects 5/8" line to 3/4" line. The nuts were removed and the 5/8" end was inserted into the installed grommet. It was a very tight fit and I actually had to screw it all the way in. The tube will fit snugly over the 3/4" end. Heres another pic with the grommet and union installed:

I think it will work just fine. I might also paint the union black to blend in a little better. Total cost was about $8
