Disabling ABS and Traction control....
Has anyone done it? I want to disable it on my 97 and im curious to see if anyone has done it.

You can turn off the switch, or unplug the WSS Wheel spin sensor on the front wheel hub.

yeah, I suppose, Is there a fuse I can pull? it seems like when you use the button to turn off the traction control it doesnt shut off.

I prefer driving without traction control (by hitting the button), but are you sure you want to disconnect ABS. Winter is coming and ABS is nice to have on icy roads.
Push the button to turn off traction control, and spin the tires on wet pavement (in a safe and considerate manner of course). If traction control is still on, it will kick the accelerator back at you and stop the tires from spinning. If they just continue to spin, the traction control is off. |
yeah im aware of how to shut off my traction, but I personally have never been a fan of ABS and in all my other vehicles there wasn't any ABS so I just wanted to know if there was a fuse I could pull or something like that. I would go check myself but its windy and rainy.

LIke Danthurs stated, you can disconnect one of the front wheel speed sensors, and it will disable traction control and ABS. Pull one of your front wheels (doesn't matter which side) and look for the electrical connection to the wheel hub. If you do this, make sure you fill both connectors (male and female) with dielectric grease, and you may want to wrap them with tape. You don't want dirt getting into the connectors in case you want to reconnect them.

You wont notice total traction control loss without pulling the WSS, but there is enough to light the tires up. Pulling the sensor stops the timing retard but also cancels TCM control and Messes with converter lock. Be aware you are doing things that can allow you to destroy a tranny not known for durability. Especially if you have to stop suddenly. And ya, you do have an ABS fuse you can pull. Dont know the one for your year but it will be marked on top of the cover.

Not sure what fuse, but it should be on the fire wall and marked.

I've done it and installed a switch in the car to have control of it. I simply cut one wire to the front left sensor and extended it to the switch. Torque converter lockup hasn't been effected in my case, but may be depending on the year. (97 and 99 are not a problem)
As mentioned, the warning about being able to spin tires and beat the transmission should be given. |
alright cool, the switch is a good idea, when I get some free time here I will take a look at it.
