Difficulty in changing oil pan and gasket?
 

While having my car serviced at the dealer for a CEL for the speed sensor, they tell me that my oil pan is rusted and it is leaking through the pan, the cost to replace the pan and gasket over $400 :roll: which sounds rediculous, so my question then is how difficult is it to replace the pan? Is is just all the bolts that are visible or is there some hidden ones or some other kind of funky design feature?

Don't know what a new pan should really cost, but I bet BillBoost can get you one for a heck of a lot less than that.

Never done a Bonne, and the one time I did change an oil pan (Ford pickemup) it turn out disastrous, but it seems like a pretty straight forward operation on a FWD car.

It's very easy on a 3800 H-body car. I've done 4 or 5 of them. 18 bolts hold it on. They're all easily accessible. The last time I bought a new pan I paid $65 for it. That was in 04 for my 99.

For your purchasing pleasure, I have an oil pan for sale. Aluminum. Won't have to worry about it rusting. You just need to buy the gasket.

Just make sure you get good gaskets, and they are properly seated. Something like an oil pan, I would suggest you buy/rent/borrow a torque wrench too.

Boost could hook you up if you need. Mark..does that pan fit the 98? (Considers shooting Mark a quick pm...lol)

The pan gasket iis a huge plastic windage tray gasket. Recently I went to a dealer for a gasket (no choice) and they added in a tube that looked like 1/3 of a chaulking gun tube. GM engine sealant. Said it was required to do an oil pan gasket.

After having mine leak after chanigng the gasket..I'll be using that goop when I do my next seal up.

That pan is off a 98 Intrigue with an L36. ;)
