Diff cover ? and PS fluid cooler ?

Okay. So. I swapped motors and transmissions over into my Bonne from an Olds 88. The Olds had a 2.86 final drive ratio, so I swapped my 3.06 diff and sungear from my old transmission into the Olds transmission. I had a slight transmission fluid leak, and it looked like the cover wasn't tightened, so I threw a wrench on it and even though it never tightened up, it still cracked the diff cover. Stupid aluminium. Regardless, I need to know if the 2.86 diff cover is the same as the 3.06. It looks like it, and I'm going to research it more, but it seems that you guys know everything lately and I'm hoping for a quick response.

Second: The power steering cooler is leaking fluid. How crucial is that cooler? If it were up to me, I'd replace the entire thing with some hose and be done with it. Considering it's location, I can't imagine it does a lot of cooling with minimal air flow. Can I replace it with some high pressure hose without adverse effects?

On the end housing cover, you'd need both parts diagrams to double check the part number to know for sure.

Power steering.. you still want some cooling. In the short term you could patch it.. however you should pick up a small cooler to replace the current one.

I seen nothing in my manual about swapping diff covers from a model that had a different gear ratio. Yet, I did see alot of info about swapping diffs. I also swapped from a 3.06 to a 2.84 and it sealed up ok. Haven't had the chance to run it yet.

Only the diff cover for the L67 (2.97 ratio on the 4T60) is different.

Excellent. From what I had researched, the covers had to be switched. I'll have to swap that over and hopefully it'll mate up nicely. Thanks Will!
