intake question continued
If the upper intake itself is at fault, is it possible that it will seep coolant around the gasket mating surface? Or could this just be a bad gasket. I want to fix my coolant leak, but I only want to do it once. The shop class as my school said it'* probably a gasket and that it would take them 12-13 hours to replace (All Data says it should take 2!) I'm gonna do it myself, but I just wanted their opinion. Now I want yours because they obviously are incompetent.

you are correct it should take about two hrs to change just the upper gasket.
Now if your like me and you do the upper and lowers along with the plastic coolant
elbow and clean everything the way it should be, its around 5 or 6 hrs.
Beleive me the cleaning is the most cumbersome part of this process. Including
soaking the injectors while they are out.

Hey glorkar, just changed the upper intake. Took about 3.5 hours in the rain, holding a flashlight, (short on resources and pit crew). Good luck and change the intake while you're at it. $150 aftermarket (napa). 10mm, 8mm sockets and a screwstick and you're in business, then sell it and stick to you're Ford project.

It'* just bad engineering/design. The reason why the UIM starts leaking is the EGR stovepipe heats up the plastic manifold and causes it to warp, which then causes a leak of coolant into the upper intake. So technically if the EGR pipe was not there, there would never be an issue with it.
