It died and won't start. Now have new motor and now this...
 

Here's the story. Was out driving around with some friends, stopped to use the restroom, came out, started the car, ran perfectly fine. As I was looking for a cd, it just died, no rough idle, no signs of trouble, just quit. Tried to start it and it would barely turn over, but the batterie seems fine because everything is working fully, lights, radio, etc. Go to get a jump and it still does the same thing. I was told that sparks are coming from the negative terminal when I try to crank it over. Please help!!

battery cables loose.....or broken

1) Clean your cables, at both ends.

2) Have the battery load tested.

Remove the boots on the cable ends for cleaning. You MUST do this. The corrosion you're after cannot be seen unless you do.

Clean the block ground locations as well. You have the classic symptoms.

Thanks alot guys. I'm in the process of swapping batteries right now. The terminals were pretty clean. (didn't pull the cover off though) The batterie was allegedly brand new when I bought the car 8 mo. ago..........

Swapped batteries, still no start. Turns over one revolution and then quits. Can't figure it out..... :x

I'd lay my money on the starter. Worn brushes.

What is the voltage during cranking?

No idea.

One revolution? Weak battery or cable corrosion.

Please pull the boots off your cables as we suggested. You cannot see the corrosion until you do.

Please also clean and reattach all the grounds. Each end of EVERY battery cable. You MUST pull the boots off. While you're doing this work, put your battery on the charger.

Agreed, First check is the battery cables, not the battery...but the cables.

As WillWren mentions, you can't ascertain the cable until you remove the bolt and boot. I'm not surprised that a battery change didn't fix the issue, there was enough power for the spark to jump.
