Default 1999 Bonneville in Accident!

My precious 1999 Pontiac Bonneville was involved in a single motor vehicle collision on Friday night when I struck a concrete light post at a low speed.

Fortunately (and not so much) both air bags did deploy. This of course resulted in the windshield being completely smashed!!

Other than that and the inside dash being messed up and pushed up because of the ps airbag going off, there is not a lot of damage considering what I hit.

My problem is, there is no collision coverage on the car, I only paid $3000 for it in the first place. Can I buy air bags from a wrecking yard and have them put in at my body shop and just get him to get it road worthy again? I know the windshield has to be replaced too , can I get a wrecking one again for that too?

I love this car but have no money (out of work) and need a car (to find and maintain work!). Any help is appreciated!

Anything you pull from the yard can be put in to your car.

Thank you for the quick reply but here is what I am confused about, on the wreckers site it said "Air Bag", now the drivers side is in my steering wheel of course and the passenger side totally blew my front dash apart! So how much do I need replacing? I need a whole new (used) steering wheel and dash than right cause the "covers" have to be on there?

The steering wheel is fine, you just replace the center part. I do believe the other side is a panel and should come with the air bag, but I could be wrong, never had to replace one of those.

Okay but what about the cover on the part of the steering wheel that hides the bag, obviously it flew open when it fired right?? I mean my horn didn't work in this one, could I buy the wheel itself from the wrecker with air bag and all and have the horn there too?

I am not getting how you say I don't need the wheel replaced, just the air bag, sure the bag can go in but the cover has to go on it too?

Plus I need sensors and all that too or would that be included?

I am pretty sure that the center section is one sealed unit, with the bag under the cover until it deploys, so all you will need is the center section for your steering wheel because the cover is a permanent part of it. . . . until it blows

Ahhhh okay didn't know that! Makes sense though. But you don't know anything about the passenger ones eh?

That damn thing destroyed my windshield, blew my vent covers off, blew 2 lenses out of my sunglasses!!!! Plus the entire front dash is lifted up too.

I know a wrecker near me had a Black Bonneville last summer that I got a mirror off of it. I am hoping and praying it is still there, I am calling him first thing tomorrow to see if he does still have it, that thing will be stripped by the time I am done with it!

I just found this forum tonight when I found this video:

http://www.streetfire.net/video/just...t-of_34991.htm

Watching that, I know understand why my windshield is no more either! Damn!

Wow! You know at first I thought it was from the pole I hit when I saw the windshield but when I read about the force of the bag going off, I knew it had to be that!

Do I really have to repair the windshield or can I just duct tape it???????
