Dead alternator...FAST!!!! how to remove alt from l67?
 

I am moving the alt over from the l67 to the l27, l27 is peice of cake, I assume it will work ok. please advise

Same way, it's just a slightly different spot. Take off the belt, remove the two electrical connections, remove the front bolt, than get another wrench or socket because the rear is attached with a bolt and nut, so you need to hold one end and turn the other.

n/m alternators are already switched job done, back to 13.9v on daily driver :roll:

I also should mention i just changed the battery yesterday on this car wtf?

Batteries and alternators have a bad habit of failing at the same time. One getting weak will stress the other to the point of failure.

So now I am a little worried about the alt I swapped from the l67 since it is only the 105 amp version (see for sale section-engine photo) and it was stressed due to the constant overheating of the engine.

Was the reccomended alt for the 3800 the GM reman 140 or what is the most reliable I can swap on here to insure this does not happen for a while?

At minimum, whatever was stock. The 140 won't hurt, however.

It is almost frightening to see how easy gm made it to change out these alternators....for easy swap every 20,000 miles :roll:

Last alt I changed out took me 45 minutes, but that was on a 454.

Its real easy. Back in my good ol' high school days (4 months ago) I went out 2nd period for breakfast and when I get back to my bonne and find the bearings blown out of my alternator. I was able to call my dad to get another alternator, bring it and then install it and still be back for 4th period which ment I only missed about 40 mins of school.

Unless you have a sound system drawing a lot of power I wouldn't be worried about swapping out the 105 right away. Until you see any indication of problems, I'd stick wtih it.
