Default Dash lights out - Driver door chimes

Well last night after fixing my taillight leak I went to turn the car on. I noticed two new problems that both came at the same time:

1. My dash lights are completely out. My Car display (disyplay with mileage), compass, and my heads-up display are the only things that light up. My gauges work just fine, simply no lights. Turning the rheostat doesn't change a thing.

2. When my driver door is open there is a constant repeating chime. Parking lights are off and key is out of the ignition.

Possible soultion: After reading about both situations (I haven't found a post where people had both of these problems at the same time) my guess is that its the entire rheostat setup. Any other possible solutions? How much does a new rheostat cost?

Thanks guys.

There is a fuse in either the passenger side or drivers side fusebox. This was the one blowing on my car. I never solved my problem on my '94. Make sure you cleaned the light sockets really well and greased them. Replace the fuse and see if it does it again, if so, you have a failing headlight switch or a short somewhere.

I would suggest checking the headlight switch, cleaning both ground busses located near at the front doors on each side under the carpeting and reviewing the fuses.

a dinging when no key and doors shut is a classic "no power to headlight switch" problem

Problem fixed. When I put the tail light back in a wire got pinched and it shorted out fuse 14 (15 amp) Parking Lights. Glad it was an easy fix o.O
