Default Spindle nut size? (repacking noisy bearings)

What size is the spindle nut on a 94 Bonneville?

I need to repack the wheel bearing because its making noise.... It may need a new one, but I gotta look to see... if it does need a new one, I can only find the hub/bearing assembly, not just the bearings, why so? Anyone know where I can get just the bearings? (hub assy. costs $140 here...)

Thanks, Andrew

I also heard that I need to replace a crush/shear nut or something, is this true?

Thanks again, Andrew

You can't just replace the bearing(*). It comes as an assembly. $140 is a fair price to payt(mine cost $130 it also included a new nut and a new bearing seal). Here'* a good description of what you may need to do to replace your wheel bearing assembly.

BTW...You'll need a 1 5/16 deep socket to take off that nut. Also you might want to soak that nut with penetrating oil before you attempt to remove it.

You can't repack them. They're sealed non-serviceable units.

Sorry, Andrew, you can't "repack" the bearings(ahhh, the good ol' days).. It'* a sealed unit. But, the good news is you could just turn your radio up a little louder to drown out the humming. But when you can't hear the radio over the bearing noise, it'* time to "bite the bullet" and replace that wheel bearing assembly. Good Luck.

Cant repack them? Thats just stupid.....

Its pretty loud, kinda crunchy.... and the radio dont work.... He is scared to drive on it, fearing it will sieze....

If he has to buy the whole assymbly, I guess he is without a car for about another month... Guess I gotta find $140 somewhere?

No way I can just buy new seals after I tear out the bearing?

Laters, Andrew
