Just bought a 97 ssei. Only got one remote with it. Do i need another with same number on back, or can I get another one that looks same and reprogram? Figured I better know before I look for a second one.

Got me there... :? ...I'd say with this method, you prolly wanna stay with another like remote. If you get an aftermarket one, there would be different programming methods, I'm sure.

Yeah, I know if _I_ was 1/3rd of a mile away from my car, _I'd_ want to unlock and start it, too...

They are pretty common, tho, across the GM lines (including Saturn) so you should probably be able to get a backup locally. And I'm 99% sure it has to be the same model

For any given year, I'd say so; the biggest difference might be whether it'* got a Pontiac logo on it or some other line instead.

In fact, I got the second one for my SSEi for free from the salesman; he had a dead one in his drawer and he just gave it to me. A little disassembly, re-aligning the contact sheet over the circuit boards so it lined up properly under the pushbuttons, and it was good as new.
