crankshaft position sensor

Hello, thank you for all the information on my last post. I have been busy and did not attempt to install the Serpentine Belt yet, however I found out that I need to replace the crankshaft position sensor as well. Anybody know if that is a fairly easy job or should I take it to a shop?

your going to need a 24 mm socket with an impact gun and also a puller to get the balancer. The hardest part is getting the balancer off. after that its not to bad to do, you just have to get the sensor properly lined up with the tone ring or it may rub and cause problems

You don't "need" an impact gun.

You can get the bolt out by hand but it's a fight. When you rent/borrow a puller you will need to find some M6 (IIRC) X80-90mm bolts to pull the balancer. They are 99% of the time not included in most puller kits.

Overall it's an easy swap once you get the HB bolt out. TJ and I got his off by blocking the flywheel and I used a long ratchet and BFH to hit until the bolt came loose.

bolt

On my 90 I locked the flywheel and used a braker bar with a pipe on it. Came right out.
Then the balancer came right off by hand with a few taps. they all don't come out that easy though.

what is the spec for the distance between the sensor and the fingers on the dampener? he will prob need to know that.

They make a special tool for aligning the sensor, but the CPS fits so tightly on the bolts, that I have never had any trouble just bolting in the new one.

There will be a plastic cover under the HB you will need to pull off the special bolts - the CPS is underneath on the right. Check the interrupter rings on the back of the HB to make sure they are tight and straight, and make sure the HB is in good condition too - no split or loose rubber between the hub and the pulley.

Good thought..but there is no adjustment on the Series II sensors. They simply bolt on and are positioned by a pin on the timing cover into a hole on the back of the sensor.

ok, no adjustment on ser 2? didnt know that. onlydone ser 1. well thats a lil easier for him

Nothing needed for Series 1 either. They slip on with zero adjustment for backspacing or radial position.

I've had mine off the SSEi on three different occasions and it just slips back in.
