Crank sensor
 

Hi everyone, I have been doing alot of reading on this forum and I think I may have my problem solved, maybe. To start my 97 sse wont start, I have started eliminating things already. The coils have been tested with the meter all good except the primary winding on 2/5, I replaced it. The car is getting spark, it is getting fuel, the fuel pump sounds a bit grumbly but I will deal w/ that later and the wires have been renewed. The plugs were recently changed by the prev. owner and the car would not run anymore for her so she sold it to me for 500 bucks. The plugs are wet and I am about to get new ones, but just in case that does not work, where is the crank sensor located? I love this car, it is loaded to the teeth and would like to take her for a drive! Any help would be appreciated!!!

Check for spark from all three coils
Check the routing of the spark plug wires
Check for fuel at the rail
Check for fuel injector pulse
Let us know what you find or if you need help on how to check these 4 items.

I definitely have spark, I took a spark plug wire from my 69 goat and a spark plug and tested all 6cyl. The spark was rather white instead of blue any issue with that? I let the fuel pump prime and pressed the shrader valve on the fuel rail, it shot a couple of feet. How would I test the injector pulse? On the GE locomotive EFI I made a test light and jumped the connection on the fuel pump to get a pulsing light, would this be the same?

You can test fuel injector pulse with a node light or even a #194 light bulb. Just remove the wires from an injector & connect it to the light. Bulb should pulse while cranking.

Don't forget to check the routing of the spark plug wires.

I'm assuming you meant this in regards to Firiing Order? If not, how would the actual routing of the wires prevent a start?

Yes - firing order. Although saying 'firing order' just doesn't seem to work with distributer less ignition systems. I guess 'routing' isn't the best phrase either.

I just had a crank sensor put on my car a few weeks ago. From what the mechanic showed me its behind the front passenger tire. Once you take off the tire its behind the harmonic balancer.

Is this a SC or NA engine....those symptoms could be a intake failure on a NA car.

Hey guys, just a little follow up. I got the car started after changing the plugs. But I am still not convinced that the crank sensor is ok. I bought a new one and a o2 sensor just for safe measure. I hve been reading some of the past forums and I think when the car gets hot the sensor starts to fail. The car does have 147k on it so it probably is tired. As far as being an SC or NA I am not sure. Is that info in the VIN? I am in the process of changing the CPS right now, just have to get the right bolts for my puller.
