You should replace it as soon as you can, but it wont hurt anything if you have to wait. It'* just a plastic disk with 6 holes. Those holes get a little over sized and there'* some slop.

Yup, picture a donut (chocolate frosted) with six holes in it. Each hole rather small. Three of the holes are filled by the snout shaft and the other three are attached to a gear on one rotor (the other rotor is drive by the gear). The coupler is a very hard plastic that I've never seen break from any level of abuse and people have tried hard. The pins in the holes are always turning, therefore a little wear occurs...this tends to egg the holes enough that you can feel/hear it..but not necessarily see it. The egging causes noise, that'* all.
In a charger if the coupler was removed, the pins would rest on each other and still turn the charger.
If anything were to happen, you could simply remove the SC belt by cutting or tying out of the way and the car will still run and drive. You would be lacking the extra power from the charger, but the engine would still have plenty for you.
