Default 92 pontiac bonneville will not crank up

Hi all my 92 pontiac bonneville will not crank up it just turns over. I check to see if the engine was getting any gas and its not so i think fuel pump. i had took my car to the dealership last year and had the fuel pump change out and its out again and of course the warranty is up. i refuse to pay the dealer here in Georgia $700.00 bucks to fixed this again. do anyone have direction on how to change out a fuel pump??? i do most of the work on my car so i can do it if its not that difficult or if you know anyone here in the atlanta area that work on pontia. Can anyone help me please. any help will be greatly appreciated.

I would check the pressure at the fuel rail and regultor as well as the fuses for the pump.

Here'* a link to a fuel pump.

I strongly reccomend you change your fuel filter before changing the fuel pump. 11.95 and 5 minutes (1/2 beer) worth of work.

As Bill mentioned, check out our thread from my fuel pump experience. If you're going to do this yourself, you'll want to keep this in mind:

The AC Delco guy was pretty vehement about us using a Delco fuel pump. He said the job was a royal pain in the butt, and that we'd be better off with OEM rather then risking an after market part. In my case, I said to hell with it and used an Advance Auto fuel pump cause they wanted 159 bucks and Advance wanted 99. You should also make sure at the fuel rail what kind of pressure you have. Also, check the vac line at the Fuel Pressure Regulator for gas in the line. (This advice taken from other members) If you do your problem is a bad regulator.

On to the fuel pump change:

First drain the tank as completely as possible beforehand.

Drop the exhaust (prop it up with something and move it off to the side a bit.)

The hardest part of the whole process is getting the tank off. When you start, the straps are held up by two bolts which have those dumb metal clasps on the back end of the bolt. If they break and the bolt spins, CUT THE STRAPS. Do not toy with it for even a minute. We wasted aboy 2 hours just trying to cut the bolts in some way that would save the straps. Unless you have a store nearby that stocks most AC Delco parts, you'll want to purchase the straps in advance (26 bucks from the AC Delco supply place near Bill).

Side note: The straps are different lengths. There'* a left one and a right one. Sort out which is which now as it'll save you heartache later when you're trying to put the damn tank back on.

Once you're done with that, the tank comes right out. Be prepared for some gas spillage from the lines and residue from whats left in the dank.

After that, be careful tapping out the seal holding the pump assembly inside the tank. The whole unit will come out as one piece from there. You'll want to replace the fuel strainer while you have the assembly out as well with a fresh one. I've read that you can clean the old one, but I believe most pumps come with a new strainer anyway.

Once you install the new pump and strainer, insert the unit back in your tank and gently tap the seal back on. Reattach the tank with your new bolts and straps, or with the old if you were fortunate enough not to bust the old bolts. Reinstall and change your fuel filter while you're down there if you didn't try that already.

Fill your tank up with a couple gallons of gas and start turning the car over. Be warned that it'll take a couple minutes for the system to repressurize and lines to fill up with gas again.

Reattach your exhaust.
