Default Can someone tell me the torque specs for the belt tensioner?

For my 94 non SC? I was wondering if the tensioner is weak and causing my squealing and want to check the torque but I can't find a thread or specs anywhere that tell how much torque it'* supposed to have.

The noise I'm trying to fix is better outlined in this thread.

http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...ic.php?t=95206

I put a new Gatorback belt on and that didn't cure it. I put in a new pcv and that did nothing but it needed changed anyway. willwren told me that maybe my tensioner is getting weak so I figured i'd check the torque because I know you can't go by feel and when I changed the belt the tensioner felt strong. The car has 180,000 miles but the engine "supposedly" has only 60,000 or 70.000 miles on it.

I read somewhere that another boardmember had a chirping squealing sound and a piece of his starter housing broke off and was inside the housing causing problemes. This is something I'll look into as well because my starter has been acting funny and it'* worth a look to see.

The best way to describe the noise at this point is that when I hit the brakes in lower rpms or turn RIGHT (not left :?: ) in lower rpms it makes this noise but it sounds as it someone is sticking something metal against something metal that is spinning very fast. That'* why I think a chunk inside the starter housing my be a possiblity because it could be a piece getting caught up in the flywheel. The sound is described better in the thread that that link will take you too though.

I'm running out of ideas on this one.

This quote might be better helpful.

When I put it in reverse it would squeal as i hit the brakes but when I put it into park it would quit. Took it for a drive down the highway to get it going again, pulled back into the car wash bay. Same thing, it wouldn't squeal in park! Evil or Very Mad

So I left and stopped at the gas station for a soda. The car was parked on an incline with the front facing slightly down hill. NOW it keeps squealing in park!!! Confused

Anyway I took lots of time to check it out this time. Now i have to admit it DOES appear to be coming from the serpentine belt area but down low so that it made it sound like it was coming from somewhere else. The pully that is down low in the front of the engine is what I suspect the air condition compressor? Is this true? I don't know if the compressor is bad but the belt is very old and has lots of dry rot. Maybe this is just a case of a bad serpentine belt? Do any of you think the compressor may be starting to freeze up to cause the squealing or might it just be squealing because the belt is worn out and the compressor takes some force to turn it?

The noise does appear to be coming from that pully. Any suggestions beyond buying a new belt? Or are you all pretty confident that it may just be an old wore out belt? (for all I know the belt is the factory original, I know the plug wires were Rolling Eyes )
