Cooling fan isn't kicking on
Hey guys. First post here.
So I've done a bit of work by myself on my 99 Pontiac Bonneville SE. Had Bonnie about 6 months. Done a couple oil changes, oil filters, new fuel filter, new tires, brakes, and things.
The AC bearing went out so I bought a delete pulley and in the process of removing the compressor hit the starter wires with my wrench and got a burn on my finger and blew one of the relays and MY RADIATOR FANS DON'T WORK.... Bought a new relay for 23 bucks and the fans won't kick on. Checked the fuses and they're all good.. bought a code reader and it shows me P1651 and P1652. I pulled one of the relays and hot wired it for the mean time. Meaning I have to connect the wire and unplug it Everytime I drive it so it doesn't kill my battery. The other relays under the hood are good. How do I get my fans to work again without bypassing anything?

Are you sure they are not turning on? Low speed turns on at 212 and high speed(both fans) turn on at 226.

Thank you Mike
I will check this later. Should I disconnect and reconnect the battery to maybe reset anything? Or just use the old working relay instead of the hot wire? I thought they were supposed to turn on at 200... I'll get it up to 240 and see what happens. I don't know a lot about cars... Just don't want to blow it up.

If you disconnect the engine temp sensor, this should default the PCM to turn the fans on. It'* a safety feature should it not see engine temp anymore. If the fans turn on, then they should be working fine.

It'* possible the fiddling and manually forcing fans on may have set the code too. I would intervene at 230 myself if the fans don't come on, because that means it has blown past both fan setpoints. The extra 10* probably won't kill it, but nothing would be accomplished by letting it go that far. Also, if only one fanspeed is working, this will become apparent too.
