Default Cracked exh manifold..options?

Somehow I have developed a crack iin my rear exhaust manifold (adjacent firewall). GM wants a fortune for one of these things, and the 'net yields very little. It isn't a huge crack. Is some sort of welding an option, or a waste of time and money?

how bad is it?
if its not that bad i would just let it go, mine leaks and it doesnt bother me at all, unless im using top engine cleaner(it puts out enough smoke to spot it then).

could try to weld it...Don't see the harm in that....or you could get some TOGS

I don't think welding would hurt. I'm sure you could find a cheap used manifold at a junkyard if you had to.

Series II motor? Headers...

Otherwise get a used one if having it welded doesn't work. An exhaust shop might be able to help with that.

Yeah, you would think that a used manifold would be a possibility... unfortunately, they are rare. The supercharged engine and non-supercharged do not share exhaust pieces such as manifolds. GM has me at gunpoint for $340-$400...
Leaving it go isn't an option -- the O2 sensor is slowly melting and it won't pass VA state inspection (exhaust leak)
Crack is a widening hairline, just before the sensor. I also hear manifold leaks eat valves (lack of backpressure)

Finding exhaust manifolds is easy. Find what cars match, and go to that site. LOTS of GP guys have spares lying around,

This happened a few years ago on my 92 SE. I found an exhaust manifold for $70 USD at a wrecking yard specializing in Chevys right here in town. The gasket for the manifold and the doughnut-like gasket for the exhaust pipe were about $30. It took a couple of hours and lots of scraped knuckles to change.
