Default pcv valve problems again...I think

Hey yall. I was workin on the car last weekend to replace the radiator (which went well btw. Thanks for yalls help!) I was also tryin to find the vac leak I've had for a while. I replaced just about every vac line and checked the modulator and evap can but I still have the crappy idle and no power when I start off from a stop sometimes. The last thing I can think of is the pvc valve. I replaced it a while back using some o-rings from a pack of 20 or so. Im thinking maybe I put on the wrong size or maybe they were just crappy rings or something. Do yall know if they make a kit for our cars with the right size rings and all that? GMPD has one for the newer cars (2000+ and GPs) but I didnt find one for the L27. Autozone, Advance, and Napa dont have kits and they keep trying to sell me these gromets that are bigger than the hole that the valve sits in. Its too late in the day to try one of the dealers to see if they have a kit or if they can give me all the right sizes of rings and stuff. Also there is a Delco outlet about 20 minutes away from here and they dont have a kit either and they arent sure of the size of rings. Right now Im kinda at a loss as to what to do. Any help yall can send my way would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Sam

I just replaced my PCV last night. I went to Autozone and bought the valve, but it came with no o-ring. Ours was lost. They also don't carry the o-ring.

So we bought a generic pack of o-rings and it had one that fit perfect.

I was told to remove the oil filler cap with the engine idling. If there is a strong vacuum then you are leaking around the PCV area. The MAP can cause a leak too. Mine separated between the vacuum nozzle and circuit assembly.

Sam.. After going through all the vacuum lines and putting an o ring on the PCV, it seems like you have covered the vacuum possibility.

Try the oil cap test as Bigfoot mentions, it'* a great way to double check that o ring. After that, let'* get some more information.

When was the last tune up?
Last time the throttle body was cleaned?
Is the air filter clean?
When is the last time (time and mileage) that the fuel filter was changed?

Also, make sure that you got the old o-ring out of there to begin with. IIRC, at least one person here found that the old o-ring was still in there and adding a new o-ring made it seal improperly.

Thanks for yall replies. I took off the oil cap while the engine was running and there was a fairly strong pull of air and the engine died. So yeah, its the pcv valve. Im gonna go get a new one and another pack of rings and replace it tonight after work. Im pretty sure I took out the old one the last time I replaced it but I may be wrong.

As far as a tune up, its an on going thing with my car.

Plugs and wires were done about 2 months ago as was the oil and filter.
Air filter was done about 5 months ago.
Fuel filter was done about 6 months ago (2000 miles more or less)
The throttle body was done about 6 months ago
O2 was done about 8 months ago
FPR was done about 2 months ago
Radiator was changed about 2 weeks ago along with the hoses and vac lines.
Cat was changed 8 months ago.
Transmission fluid/filter was changed about a year ago.
New TPS and MAF
180* T Stat
Alternator was done about a month ago and put on a new gatorback belt
Modulator was done about a year ago
I know Ive fixed more than that but i cant remember right now. Coffee hasnt sunk in yet....

Slowly I seem to be replacing everything in the car but its taking a while depending on money and time. Im gonna do the PCV valve again tonight and make sure I get that damned O ring out of there.

Thanks for yalls help. Seriously, my car would not be running if not for yall.

I forgot to put that I got new tires about 6 months ago too. Dont know how I forgot that one since I had to go to a real shop to do that. Its hard dealing with real mechanics sometimes...

I also replaced the front tranny mount about a year ago before I got the car running again from my accident.

Front struts were replaced a little less than a year ago That was a killer job for me.

Also about a year ago I replaced the fuel pump and strainer.

Im gonna do the brakes during the holidays when I have a bit of extra money. Want to do it right with good roters as one of mine is starting to warp a bit and Im gonna put on ceramic pads. Im not sure about the back brakes though. Havent really looked into them as far as what to replace them with or what. Im sure they make ceramic pads for drum brakes too, but I havent really bothered to check.

Im off to work in a few minutes, Ill check back here durin lunch to see if yall have any ideas for me or just comments or whatever.

Again, thanks for yalls help.

Well I got another O-Ring on the valve and its workin better. The old one I had on there deteriorated for some reason and it kinda disolved and was all sticky. While I was under the hood for all of about 5 minutes, I noticed some coolant on the space between the valve covers and the manifold. I went around and there is a little steam comming out of the exhaust but the oil is free of coolant. I went ahead and drained the oil andtook off the filter just to be sure though. Ive done some searching on the forum and found that there has only been a handful of L27s that have had intake problems. Is this something I can fix with some sealant, or would I have to go through the entire UIM/LIM procedure?

Thanks,

Sam

Is the coolant puddling around the LIM bolts? Soak it up and make sure.

No not around the bolts, just right ontop of the valve cover between the plastic and the metal of the manifold. I wiped it off and turned on the car and it didnt seep up again until the car got up to temp. Its not a large amount of coolant and its not spraying or anything, just slowly comes out.
