I could be wrong, but it looks to me that the number of splines is greater and (possibly, though it'* hard to tell from the pic) the diameter is different?

yup, there is no optical illusion here, the hd is bigger. Mine is on the right, and I had to put it back in (because they sent me the one on the left)

I've heard from the local GP guys that the only difference HD to non HD on the transmissions is the differential and the diff cover. That could explain for the axle size and length difference.

Looks like Travis either broke an axle or blew out a CV.

no, it is still working but if you look at the boot closely you will see it it spewing grease.

update:

first place sent wrong axle
second place called back, can't find the axle their computer says they have
third place calls back and says boot has tear in it, do I still want it? duh

4th attempt, Autovalue reman, $70 with core exchange. Might just have to do this.
