Default Crazy pinging *updated 5/18/04* Car'* gone ....

No idea what is going on, but this god damn thing is nothing but problems. (95 SSEI)

The car is getting some crazy pinging. I always use Ultra 94 octane from Sunocco.
Accel is not so good anymore, and when i accel on the highway it pings like crazy all through the accel process, if im at a stop light and want to accel with 1/2 throttle to say 40 mph it will ping alot. No idea whats up. From what i herd the timing can't be adjusted on these cars.

Now can this be caused by the ECU? The mechanic tested the old ECU and said something was messed up inside. I listed this in a pervious post how the car just took off on its own full throttle once. So they replaced the ECU but since then its been crap.
The pinging and the somewhat missing power. Before i could lay into the gas and lay rubber with ease, now i still can break em loose but not so much and ofcourse the mad pinging from hell.

So could the mechanic put in an ECU from a 92-93 ssei or another model? Would the car run with anything but a proper ecu for a 95 ssei?

Any thoughts would be apreciated

Thanks

I'm not sure, but I think it needs a 95 SSEi computer. A 94 might work.

I had an old ('84) Tornado once and when it began to ping my friend told me to replace the EGR valve. And Shazam, that solved the problem for me. That'* my thought for the day.

HHmmmmm EGR huh?
Cheap part worth the try. The car at idle smells like its running really rich, i don't think the EGR has anything to do with this but im thinking the 02 sensor might be shot.

If anyone else has any ideas or has experienced this problem please feel free to add input.

Thanks for the info guys. So with a 92 ssei ecu it wont run. Can the cam be off or timing chain?

Ive had this happen on many diffrent rides in the past. Twice I found the wire to the knock sensor disconnected, and once Ive found a bad sensor. A cheap way to check the sensor{assuming you can get near it} Is to rap a hammer or wrench on the block near the sensor, and listen for idle change. The hammer simulates detonation, and the idle change would be a retard of timing. These Buick engines in my opinion are not as sensitive to this procedure as others, but maybe it can help.

If you lose a wire to the sensor, the pcm usally falls back to a default timing base. Some older chevs would throw max. advance and hammer like hell. Hope this helps.

Thanks again guys,

ok so my mechanic with his gauge checked the vacum pressure in 2 diff places. It was read 9 or sometimes 10 and he told us it should be reading 18-21. Poor car , it ran so nice for the first week he had the car then it went to ****.

he is going to get it to GM tomorrow and get it on the machine to see whats up.

Ok so my dad took it to GM today. They sat waiting from 10 30 am to 4 pm before the car was taken in. They ran a computer scan it showed nothing. So they said it has something to do with a vacum leak. We knew it was low on intake pressuer and we told them that but they couldnt find nothing. So now they want the car back on monday for a compression check to see if the cam or crank be off a degree. Why would it be off you ask? The car had new bearings installed in the crank and thinking it wasnt put back right.

There is a serious noise thats getting worse and worse also, sounds like the SC is going south but i dont think thats what it is.

So it continues.....
