Code 39 TCC problem :small update:
 
Here it is. This morning, I get on the highway, but 4th gear never arrives. Just hangs at 3000+ rpm. I turned around and limped home.

Scan reveals code 39 TCC problem. Assuming I get just a new TCC, how much would that cost?

Now, likely I will get a full rebuild, but I'm just curious.

It's possible to replace the solonoid in the car, but it's not worth it. Age and miles are against you.

Time to do it. All. It's just the first sign. If you're not ready, try some Lucas to free it up if it's stuck. About 100 miles or so. If it doesn't get better, start your plans. What does your fluid look like AFTER the commute?

I did not commute. Turned around and went home, not more than a few highway miles. Did some town driving, several miles. Fluid looks fine.

It has 57,000 miles since a rebuild. Most of the last year was spent with an undiagnosed dying vacuum modulator, so I'm thinking clutches are worn pretty good.

Check the resistance of each of your solonids and compare them.

Then try to manually engage the TCC solonoid and listen for it.

Well, I yanked the Interceptor Module thingy off my connector that was supposed to help TCC shudder. I've had it a while, and it did help some. But it seems to have lost continuity in one of the leads for the TCC solenoid.

So road test it is. 4th gear came back, TC lockup tried to, code 39 did not. On the highway, revs would slowly settle in like they should, but would rise steadily with more throttle. Scan tool reveals max TCC slip most of the time.

Resistance of the all the solenoids seem to be in range.

Still got the cam code 41... :roll:

Hmm. Found a cheapie used one, supposedly with low miles (sure, what isn't). But as long as it is working for a while, it'd be worth it to me to swap in while mine got a really good rebuild.

Thoughts?

Wait a minute... I've got a parts car. But it's a 93 SE. Would that one work short term? Or could I get it rebuilt like an HD?
