Code 341, replaced sensor...still problems

Alright.

Problem. Car will run for a short time then die. Usually when sitting at idle for a while. Sometimes while driving.

1. Changed fuel pump, filter, and sender last week. Car ran smoother. Problem really didnt go away. Would still stall randomly.

Problem. Driving the car today. Crapped out real hardcore.Wouldnt start at all and needed it towed. Had it scanned at pepboys. Error code 341. Changed out the cam position in the parking lot. The car started right up then it stalled while idling. Started again and was fine, started driving down the street and it stalled again at a red light. Got the car off to the side. Would start pretty much every time i tried yet it would stall within a second or so.

Now its sitting in my parking lot.

I was reading and I saw some things about the ECM? Now is that the whole unit or would I just need a chip? It seems to only happen when the idle is low (when im driving it'll be when im just gliding down a hill or so with low RPMS.

The car idles under 1000RPM all the time, always had.

You may still have a problem with fuel delivery, or the Crank Shaft Position Sensor could be failing. I'd check pressure on the fuel rail first to rule that out and the fuel pressure regulator also. Disconnect the vacum line on the fpr, if fuel pours out the fpr is faulty.

Im going to change the crank again. It was changed in 2003. About 30,000 miles ago. Think it could have gone bad in that time?

Im gonna check the fuel as well.

If it did go bad again, you have electrical problems. I would pull the vacuum line off the FPR and see if it is ok.

What sorta electrical problems?

Fuel Pump relay right?

Please, stop shotgunning parts at it and running up your bill with the local parts store.

The FSM's provide good steps to diagnose these issues and determine the faulty part.

For example. I had a similar issue.. the first step in the diagnosis in my 97 FSM was to check the coils, and ICM connections and for cracks or issues..

Bassplayincrowe 07-17-2006 10:45 AM

ICM connections are good. I have to pick up a multimeter today to check the ohms on the coils.

The car doesn't run rough so I wouldnt really expect it to be a coil problem.

BillBoost37 07-17-2006 11:07 AM

Check the grounds, the mounting to the ICM plate, the wiring to the connector. As well the wiring to the crank and cam.

You don't believe you lost the magnet in your cam gear do you?

Bassplayincrowe 07-17-2006 12:38 PM

If I lost the magnet it would still run anyways. According to the GM service manual in the event of a Cam sensor failure it will revert to stored codes.

I went out earlier and the car idled for a good 20 minutes without failing.

I believe this is definately a heat related issue. Since it wasnt as hot today and time of extreme failures is when it is extremely hot outside. It does seem to act like when it had the crank sensor fail. Though it was extremely cold then. I have put about 30,000 miles on it since it was replaced. It was not an AC Delco part.

How can I jump the OBD connector to pull codes?
