Does anyone know how to remove the trim piece along the top of the windshield with out breaking it. Mine is coming up a little on the ends so I want to remove it and clean out any gunk that might be trapped underneath it.

Also, if in case it gets broken, does anyone have a part number for that baby?

FYI. That metal strip at the top can only be reinstalled while the windshield is out. The top of the glass sits in a groove of the strip which sits in the groove at the top of of the car. Basically, the metal strip is on the windshield before the windshield is installed. That'* what the guys told me when they replaced my windshield and why it still leaks. They said these cars need at least 3 people to change a windshield and that with these particular models, they are prone to leaks afterwards.

thats BS! it can EASLY be done with two people. Me and a friend of mine that does it for a living did mine with bo problems. but like you were told the molding needs to be instaled on the windsheild BEFORE it is installed

Well, maybe they personally prefer to use 3 people to do those. I dunno.

At any rate, the windshield needs to be out so the strip can go on it, then installed all at once.

So what you're saying is, that in order to remove that black strip that runs along thetop of the windshield, the whole windshield needs to come out?

Yep! If you just pull it out, you will ruin the rubber seal inside of it. If you buy a new one, you will ruin the seal trying to install it.

Maybe I did it wrong, but mine was loose to begin with. Darned thing wouldn't stay on. SO I removed it, cleaned out the channel really well, then got some windshield trim adhesive caulk and reinstalled the trim. I haven't had trouble with it since, and it'* been about a year. I did it without any help. So I believe it can be done without removing the windshield, and alone. How to remove it undamaged when it'* in there good and tight, I can't tell you. I can tell you the ends slip under the side gutter trim, so you'll have to pull one end forward, and then carefully work your way around, removing it from the groove in the windshield seal.

See that'* what I was thinking. Mine seems to have worked it'* self loose on the ends (about a foot from the door frame). I was going to start lifting it out and then clean out the groove, put some type of marine grade chalk on there and then put the trim piece back on. I wasn't sure how the piece is connected. I thought it simply snapped into a groove.

Actually, it doesn't even snap into the groove. You kind of just press it in. The caulk you want is at your local parts store, specifically for windshields. I used 3 pieces of tape to hold it in place for a day or so, until I was sure the caulk was set.

Don't misunderstand, I'm no expert! This was my experience on my '93 SE. More recent years may be different. And I know others will probably disagree.

Im not saying dont trust him but, i recommend you not risk it. Either leave it alone or remove the whole thing. Since alot of other parts changed throughout the years, maybe the trim did too. Think about it. Be wise.
