check engine on and off mean anything?

Does it mean anything if the check engine light is on for a while, then goes off for a short bit, then goes back on for a while vs. being on all the time?

That means the problem is intermittent. What is the year and trim line of your car?

94 SSEi. No HUD. But...I kinda feel like an idiot (I think) because I was thinking about it after I wrote my post before and realized it was the "check guages" light that was on and that I probably just need gas! Could be voltage b/c the SSEi's dont have that guage. This one may be easier to fix than I thought. I assume that this light is for the oil, fuel, temp guages and not problems w/ codes and that this would be the service engine soon light. Geez..I just rebuilt my SC and put on a new balancer but can't seem to know why that fuel guage in the red would set off a check guages light!!

Sounds like your repair is to go get a fill-up.

Honestly, I started the car up first the first time ever yesterday since it's my brother-in-laws car I'm fixing. I didn't see anthing on the windshield, so I assume it doesn't have HUD.

ssesc93 05-24-2004 12:56 AM

oh, its on the dashboard. driver side. might have been on dim or off or not to ur adjustmeant

zimaad 05-24-2004 02:40 PM

what do ya know.... a full tank of gas and no "check guages" light. That was one of the easiest repairs as of yet! I think the real issue was solved with the crank sensor.

Also, there is definately no HUD in this car. It is a 94 SSEi with the normal tape radio in it. No spoiler on back either.

She purrs like a kitten now. Too bad its going back to my brother-in-law then being sold. All that hard work invested...psshhh.

Very odd....I though SSEi's come stock with all those options and just the SSE come with fewer...interesting

fuddyduddy121 05-24-2004 05:13 PM

Starting in 1994, the SSEi became in option rather than a trim level. That's why you see some of them without other options.
