Default Cooling problem 952 SSEi

I have just purchased a 92 SSEi, a great car, but I know it needs
some minor things corrected. I have scanned the net for sites
specific to this car to learn from the experiences of others that
have this automobile.

My main issue with the car at this point is that my
temp gauge stays above 200 (pretty much jumps there as soon as the
car is started) and sometimes even inches to the "redline". I have
changed the t-stat to a 180 but I have not put the car to the test
yet as I do not want to risk hydrolocking my engine. Any help would
be greatly appreciated

how long does it take to jump there? cause if its doing it right after you start the car id almost think some sort of sending unit was bad or something.

It usually will go straight to 200 as soon as the car is started.[/img]

i dont think theres any possible way the engine could heat up THAT fast...so im thinking something must be screwy in the sending unit, or in the gauge itself...but i would wait for the advice of a guru before you rip your car apart or anything

Yup, sounds like a bad ECT sensor.

From looking at the book it seems that at 100*F the ECT will output 1365 Ohms, 40 Ohms at 260*F.

The ECT sensor is just under, and back of the TB, with a Yellow and a Black wire going to it

Which one to I change there is the "Coolant Sensor Connector" which is right above the rear engine manifold, and then there is the "Coolant Temperature Sensor" which is right unter the power steering resivior. Also is it possible to use a SUNPRO aftermarket gauge as a replacement?
