I just happened to look under my car today for the heck of it, to see how the endlinks up front were looking (I just installed the new ones). Well it'* a good thing I did, because I saw grease EVERYWHERE! And it'* the INSIDE boot that crapped out. The boots were fine yesterday, from a quick inspection of them all.

I noticed a small hole on the ridge of one, that'* all I could see! But a ton of grease came out! If there'* only a small hole in the boot is it safe to put a new boot on? This obviously happened VERY recently. I'm assuming I won't need a new entire axle assembly. Those cost as much as I make in 2 weeks.

My driver side outer boot leaks just a tiny bit. Are these hard to replace?

one from the auto parts,,just R&R done...........

that depends on the replacement boot. I've had good luckon a split boot before that was a breese to install and it held up for a few years, not that I drive far ~6kmile/yr). I don't know if they make the those anymore.

A full outter boot isn't difficult but it is time consuming.
An inner, i've never done, but you've gotta pull the whole half axle out, I beleive.

Thos split boots were a joke they never seald

I used a split boot on my last Bonne when an outer went bad. I didn't really like the idea of a split boot because it isn't completely closed. I wouldn't want to cover a CV joint anyway, if it has been rotating with little or no grease. I'd rather replace the axle, but the whole assembly is $745. I wouldn't need the whole assembly though right? Just the joint and shaft?

I thought it was too expensive too! I thought I was wrong. but GMPD and parts list were up there. The ASSEMBLY (boots, joints, etc..) said $745. I was under the impression they were cheap. I must have seen the wrong part :? I'll search again.

If i remember right last time i did a pair it was UNDER $200 bucks for a PAIR plus
you got a warranty and pice of minde knowing that there new and wont fail anytime
soon...

A new half shaft from Azone is about $110
A rebuilt is $70

and on the split boot issue, I didn't say they were great or would last hundred of thousands of miles. Do it right and they will last a few years and well worth it if you don't plan on having the car by then. The newer style splits don't even use glue, just a ziplock seal according to AZone.
