Car whistles!

When I put a certain amount of pressure on my accelerator during lower gears my car whistles, it has me baffled because it only happens when I'm going less than 45ish MPH. Anyone have any suggestions? If I hold the same pressure while it's whistling it will continue to do so, until it changes gears than I have to release some of the pressure for it to do it again.

Where does it sounds like the whistle is coming from? Engine bay, under car, outside, inside?

I have a whistle in mine..but that due to a header leak at the collector. GRRRRRRRR

Danthurs 03-19-2009 06:48 PM

Could it be your intake? Check your filter.

Razr89a 03-19-2009 07:09 PM

It's not my air filter, it sounds like it's coming from the engine though.

Danthurs 03-19-2009 07:12 PM

A vacuum leak will tend to whistle more then a exhaust leak, but the exhaust can whistle as well.

Razr89a 03-19-2009 07:14 PM

Why would it only happen at certain pressures of my foot on the accelerator and not at higher speeds..

Danthurs 03-19-2009 07:17 PM

If it's just a small crack it may only open at certain amounts. You might have to wiggle the vacuum lines a bit.

Razr89a 03-19-2009 07:19 PM

Where are they at, I've never had to mess with a vacuum line before.

See if this helps.

I don't have the L67, is it generally the same set up still?

Toddster 03-19-2009 11:32 PM

It could be your throttle body. There was a member a while back that had the very same 'whistle' he described as you did to the T

He ended up installing a throttle body from another 3800 motor and it went away.

Danthurs 03-19-2009 11:49 PM

Yes, I do remember reading that a few months back. Wasn't it because it didn't line up right or something like that?

Razr89a 03-20-2009 12:03 AM

I should also mention I had a 2 new engines put in it for a total of 3 altogether, and it still does it...

Welcome our newest 3 Motor Club member!

Well than I would say it has to be one of your accessories your transferring over from all 3 motors. Your throttle body probably.

Toddster 03-20-2009 12:14 AM

and your car is black to....huh

How much is a new TB? I don't really feel like paying for another repair after my side mirror...

Toddster 03-20-2009 12:20 AM

4

Razr89a 03-20-2009 12:22 AM

It has to be the TB, because I have the new APN UIM, nothing wrong there!

Toddster 03-20-2009 12:23 AM

you don't have to go new. hit up your local salvage yard for one and save money.

crunkfrunk 03-20-2009 06:44 AM

Is this a different whistle than you were talking about in the lounge thread about your car sounding like a supercharged one?

Toddster 03-20-2009 07:06 AM

no that thread is a spoof of this one.

But the one in 'general chat' looks to be close to this one.

Razr89a 03-20-2009 05:08 PM

They're completely different, I think my L36 has a desire to be an L67!

When I get the time I'll check out what the whistle is.

Razr89a 03-24-2009 07:55 PM

It also does it when I use the Cruise control to speed up, so it has to be from a hole, there's not really any other explanation...

tlsheff 03-24-2009 07:56 PM

check for vacuum leaks around the cruise control actuator... that might be it... possibly

Razr89a 03-24-2009 08:02 PM

How would there be a hole, was it my fault? How do I prevent from happening again if it is?

Check for hose leaks or rotten hoses to the actuator motor, which is controlled by vacuum like TL said. The CC motor is connected to the TB by a cable, so follow the cable to find the CC motor. Sometimes hoses just wear out and other than replacing them all, there's not much you can do to prevent it.
