Car stalls while coming to a stop
Hey everyone. I have a 1995 bonneville se with 122,000 miles and the past 2 days it has been stalling when coming to a stop, but not all the time. Starts up just fine afterwards and has no other apparent problems such as it being sluggish, etc. Also, no check engine light. I'm not the first owner of the car, so I don't know if and when the fuel filter and stuff like that were changed, I changed the plugs and PCV about 5,000 miles ago, and regular oil changes. When you first start the engine, does the check engine light come on?
This is called "bulb check". It is designed to verify that all the warning lights actually work. If the check engine light bulb is burned out, you will never see a check engine light.
It should come one when you start the engine for about three seconds or so.

Yes, the CE light does come on when the engine is started and goes off a few seconds later. I'm suspecting an issue with the lockup clutch on the torque converter because it feels like when you try to stop a stick shift car with the tranny still in gear.

You may be heading in the right direction there...
You will want to have the codes read... If the PCM sees a problem with the TCC solenoid it should log a code...
If you were going down the road with your right foot on the gas, say at 55 mph, and you were to lightly tap the brake with your foot, you should feel a small bump, then the rpms should go up a bit, 200-500 rpms, and then you should see the TCC solenoid reapply and the rpms drop... This would be considered normal..
Let us know what you find..
