Default Any Consumer Reports, or opinions - buying 93 Bonneville SE?

Thinking about buying a 1993 bonneville SE, with 130,000 miles for $1,000.

Does anyone have, or can look up, the consumer reports quality rating for this car?

Mostly concenred about the engine, transmission, and brakes reliabilty ratings

well, you can always ask here too. depending on the options, that seems like a good price. As for reliability, 93 was a good year. I have personally had a 93 SSE, which has the same motor, just more options, and I bought it with 105k and drove it to 145k before selling it and it gave me no trouble. Only things replaced were struts, brakes, tires, and water pump. The only reason the first three were replaced is age and the fact that I was 16 when i got the car.

I'd say go for it. If you are mechanically inclined at all, we'll be able to help you through most issues that could arise and point you in the right direction if we can't.

yes 93 isthe best year...you can scan the codes your self...

common problems with the 93 (i own a 93 SLE BTW)

alternator
battery
water pump
Master cylinder
rear wheel clyinders

i would say if the body dosnet have any rust around the rear wheels (very common)....go for it......130K is nothing for the L27

hey guys, thanks for the feedback. the car has a few problems. there is some rust on the rear fenders over wheel wells.

We think the car needs a new battery, it was a little hard to start here in michigan'* teens the other morning.

Also the drivers side view mirror is broken off the mounting plate that is inside the mirror body. Owner said he was cleaning snow off, and it broke off.

the other issue was frost on the inside of the cars windows. i think there may be a loose door seal, but i'm not sure.

owner says he has put a new water pump on it, and an new alternator recentlym but that it needs a fuel filter, plugs, and wires - as these have not been done yet. the car runs a little rough, but not bad, and there is no check engine light on.

also felt like the abs does not work, as we slammed on the brakes on a snow covered street and did not feel them pulsating as they should.

we were thinking of offering $800 or $850, as it will need a new drivers side view mirror and tune up real soon.

any thoughts on purchasing, or the price offer?

The mirror is an easy fix it yourself. The frost on the windows could be it sitting for a while or a potential water leak. Feel the carpets in all 4 footwells for water or ice. Many here have water leaks.. we could easily help you diagnose and fix them inexpensively.

Otherwise..the 800-850 sounds pretty good to me. These motors can run for many many miles. There are members here over 200K
