car over heating
my temp was over 220, i checked under the hood, the fan isnt coming, when i turn on the heat or ac the fan would come on, so the fan is working, could it be a coolant temp sensor, if it is.. where would that be located

My coolant temp sensor is located right under the thermostat/housing on the lower intake manifold. Not sure if it's the same or 94 but if you have something there then that's it.

My fans didn't come on either. My fix was easy. I've been reading up on the club about this and that being fixed wtih a simple unplug and replug...ok...a few times of unplug and replug.
The relays for a/c and fans are passenger side in that big plastic area. The two closest to the passenger side of the car. I jumped the contact with car running and max a/c on. Compressor kicked on, fans fired right up. Reseat both relays a few times and use the a/c to see if the fans even work. If the fans work w/ the a/c but not temp, then go after the temp for the fans. |
Oh..and why change the coolant temp sensor it it's reading a firm 220 on your gauge. Sounds like the sensor is working. I'm not sure where the signal to turn on the fans comes from....PCM??
Masters of the Bonneville....help me out here. |
The fans do not turn on til the engine reaches a certain tempurature. I don't have a manual infront of me so I do not know off hand what that tempurature is. My guess is about 225-230. They will, however, run at all times when the A/C is on.

Masters of the Bonneville....help me out here. The coolant temp sensor is used by the ECM, this lets the ECM know what temperature the engine is at, and when to go into our out of closed/open loop mode. As far as the fans go...i really wouldnt know were to start on that one. |
