Default a/c starts and stops

i'm a new member so bear with me.
I have a 1993 Bonneville SE. I had my a/c changed over to r-134. When they put the freaon in the compressor came on and then quite. It would'nt come on. I was driving the other day it came on for 30 seconds and got cold and went off and wounld't come on again. them 2 days later it came on and went off and has not come on since. My question is what would cause this to intermediate compressor? All the freaon levels are fine. and also were in the maxi fuse/relay ceneter is the a/c relay located. there is no diagram?

You might want to check the connections to the compressor and all associated switches and sensors. If that doesn't help consider having your freon levels double checked. Not sure on the 93 which relay is AC.

hi Its me again.
How do u determine if the compressor is bad? and also how do you know if there is enough peg oil in the compressor? does this sound like it could be the cause tof the compressor doing this?

A scantool can tell you a few things about the AC. And no SE ever came with electronic climate control, so unfortunately, you can't do diagnostics from the ECC panel.

I have seen this type of thing in other cars. One of them mine, and a pontiac. The connector going to the compressor can be hard for a mechanic to remove..sometimes the retaining tab breaks off. Causes intermittent connection. Worth a check. As well when I got the 97 b'ville someone had cut and taped the wires because it was tough to get to.

Worth looking down there at the wiring. Compressors usually only fail from bad bearings.

My suggestions are
1.check wiring = Free
2.have level of freon rechecked

would the change over to r-134 cause the compressor to do this? abd about 3 months ago my power seats quite working, and the relay in the fuse panel was very hot, couldn't touch it. do you think I have a short somewere that would cause the a/c not to work? and I also had to diable my passkey to system, would this cause the a/c not to work?

A short could cause the problem, the passkey has nothing to do with the ac.

have your freon level checked that IS your problem i hope that when it was converted UV dye was added to the system
because it obvious you have a leak some where and it would be pointless to keep wasting money on addding freon if its going to leak
most guy get nervous when it comes to A/c repairs but you wont know until a qualifed tech looks at it?
