Default supercharger pulley squeal before engine warms up

This morning I started my '92 SSE and heard a squealing noise while the engine was running. My first thought was that it sounded like a pulley bearing, and I think I've noticed the noise once or twice before, but only when the engine was cold, and never that loud. It was roughly 65 degrees F outside this morning, and that'* certainly not cold. I opened the hood and listened while the engine was running. The noise was definitely coming from the supercharger pulley - yes, the pulley, not the nosepiece, not the body, and not any other moving part anywhere else under the hood.

While the engine was still running, I sprayed 1 quick squirt of WD 40 in the gap between the edge of the supercharger pulley and the edge of the nosepiece, and to my surprise the squealing stopped completely. I'm not sure if the spray also got on the edge of the pulley closest to the supercharger, but that may have happened.

This is odd to me. Can it simply be belt noise, and is it common for one pulley to make belt noise but not other pulleys that mate with that belt? Only the supercharger pulley is making noise. Maybe I'll replace the belt anyway...

my guess, the WD-40 oiled the supercharger pulley to the point were the belt would practically slide over it, and if there was any resistance in the pulley, it will be hard to pin point it now, unless, you remove the belt by slacking off the tensioner, then try turning the pulley by hand, is it hard to turn, or is it hard in spots to turn then turns easly at another point.
A good belt to try is: Goodyear Gatorback.

Well, I saw DGPMinistry'* photos of his supercharger nose that burned up. Wow!
I would think his supercharger squealed loudly and for a long time before it got that hot.

I don't think that'* the case with mine, though, I think I just have a noisy belt. Mine doesn't get hot while driving and doesn't squeal at all 99.99% of the time. Since I oiled the pulley the one time and the noise stopped, it has squealed slightly one morning about 3 days later but not since then. I didn't do anything about it the last time it happened, and it stopped after a minute or two on its own.

Bill, thoroughly clean all the pulleys and belts (without removing anything) with a citrus degreaser. Bump the engine over a couple times while you spray it on. Bump it while you rinse, also. After it dries, use some belt dressing.

Believe it or not, the supercharger exhibited a rattling or clucking noise at idle for five weeks that disappeared after the engine climbed above 900 RPM or so. IT GAVE 30 SEC. WARNING!!!

A guy with a 95 Buick Park Ave came in to the parts store today. He is just starting to have the same symptoms my bonnie had.

Know what the dealer said? "Oh, it'll go away. Just drive it"

That'* what I did. Just think how I felt while riding in the wrecker in the pouring rain watching my SSEi being tugged home. Knowing I could potentially be spending up to $1700. to get it running again...

I gave him every piece of information I know, referred him to the rebuilder (CT) and ZZPerformance.com, gave him my card and told him if he needed anything further, don't hesitate to call.

If I can spare him that discomfort, so be it. "Just drive it" -- my buttocks!!

Problem solved. It was the belt.
