Default AC test I conducted - I am pleased with the resuts

Well I conducted a simple AC test to check out the temp flowing from the vents.

5:30PM
Outside Temptemp: 106degrees (it was 112 earlier)
Started the car, Climate Control set to 60 full auto.
As usual, the air starts flowing out the defrost and heater vents just as the 97 owners manual said it should (stupid Idea if you ask me)
I look at the thermometer stuk in the dash vent 110degrees.
Let the car warm up a few minutes (like it needs it in 106 temps)
Start my drive, within a mile the ac changes to the dash vents, thermometer starts dropping, 80degress.
driving town streets 40mph - temp drops to 60deg
enter onto freeway-speed now is 73mph - temp drops to 45 to 47deg
6miles later, exit, stopped waiting for traffic to clear - temp rises to 54deg
driving on rural road - speed is 50mph - temp stays between 47-50
Road construction - speed drops to 25mph for next 3 miles - temp climbs to 58-60deg
construction ends - speed is now 45-50mph for 1 mile - temp drops to 50deg
turn in the driveway, end of test........

Temps are brutal in AZ for auto AC units.
I thought my system wasn't cold enough and now I think it is, during the day when the outside temps are 112 - 119 the AC seems never cold enough......

What are your opinions?

Yeah..figure it out... if the outside air temp is 100 and it passes over about a 30 degree evap core then what temp is it when it'* getting to you at the vent? Under 60 seems pretty good now doesn't it?

I had some extra time this morning before work so I decided to replay the test, this time the outside temperature was 85degress.
The temp gauge dropped to 38-40 degrees and climbed as high as 42-44 degrees when stopped.

All in all, I would say that my air is working just fine.

And I had myself believing that there was something wrong with it.
I need to thank randman1 for helping me find the vacuum leak I had, once I found the bad vacuum cannister and capped that vacuum line I now have good air flow out the dash vents.

not really. Even the 2000+ Bonnevilles dont' have much better of an AC system. Our 00 SIlverado gets MUCH colder too. I think a big factor is the smaller occupant cabin though?
