Is there any such thing as a high performance or high volume oil pump for a 95 bonneville sse?The dealer is saying my lower bearings are worn just enough for my oil pressure to drop when idling.I had the thought of not only heavier weight oil but the enhanced oil pump as well.Any thoughts?

u know how long it takes to change the bearings on the engine?

How low does your oil pressure drop at idle?

thanks for your help.The oil pressure drops down to almost 0 unless I rev the engine.I did figure it was temporary but right now it could be my only option.Layne

BTW,my bonneville is a 95 sse with 113,000 miles.I have owned it since 40,000 and it has been troulbe free-until now.I had an extended warranty that should have covered this but the warranty co. went bankrupt(national warranty insurance rrg).My next challenge is getting it back from the dealer without paying the "$500.00" diagnostic fee.
I am glad I found this site-could be very helpful now that I am on my own. LL

No kidding-this dealer instituted charging for diagnosis-so if you do not have the repair done that they recommend, they charge for diagnosis.I have never heard of that anywhere else.I would never take my car there except this was the dealer that at one point dealt with this warranty co.So even though they told me about "charging for diagnosis" it did not affect my bill when repaired under the warranty.Now I have deal with managers until I can talk to the owner personally. LL

Thanks for the questions-I will defintely check out the true oil presseure as soon as I get the car back.That would have been first if done elsewhere.I'll post when after I talk to the owner of the dealership.LL

As a past GM Employee & 3800 owner, I can tell you that you'll need a Crank Kit at best. A crank kit consists of new reground crank & new bearings. This is on an exchange basis too BTW! In other words, that keep your old crank as a rebuildable core.

There is no High Volume Oil pump available for any 3800 at this time.

Dealerships work on the basis of how much $$$$ you've spent there actually! If you're a regular service customer, then they (dealership) will be more inclined to help you out! I know this may seem sad, but it'* the law of every business out there! Any business will bend to help a regular customer as compared to a "Joe Blow"!

Thanks for the info.How much time do you think would be involved if the motor is already taken apart to the oil pump?I have not ever done anything like that so that could be an uneducated question.Maybe a better question would be, can you get to the lower bearings other than a complete dismantle?Thanks for the info> LL
