A/C compressor problem

My compressor is making a high pitched squealing sound. When I looked at it, the clutch had metal filings around it and metal filings was in the area around the compressor. When I looked at it when the car was running the clutch looks like it wants to turn ever so slightly. So does this look like a new clutch is needed or a new compressor is needed?

Does it make this sound all of the time or only when the compressor is cycled on?

sounds like you can get away with just the clutch or coil (Iwould do them at the same time since your their...if the pully was siezed up then it would be compressor time, but sounds like a clutch is all you need...does it try to engage at all? do you hear it click, but don't see it spinning?

At one point it did click and engage but now it doesnt even click. even when the A/C or the Defrost is off it looks like the clutch is hung up on the pulley a little bit.

The bearing for the compressor pulley has gone bad. You'll need an AC shop, or any well equipped shop to do this job as special tools are needed. The bearing i think is arounds 40 dollars, and it usually takes an hour to install. It does not involve draining the systen or anything.

If the AC does not work, you can get away by using a shorter belt andbypassing the compressor.
