Default PLEASE HELP!!! Code 58??? Wont Start!

I just decided to replace my timing chain, crank sensor, and oil pump, because the SES light was on because of a broken cam magnet/interruptor thing. Today, I start up, the valves are making noise like hell, engine runs ok, decide to rev it up a little, it revs good, then dies completly and wont start at all. No spark. Also I do have good oil pressure. I pulled code 58, but there is not a 58 in the list of codes in techinfo. Any ideas??? Please help!!!

Code 58 has to do with the VATS security feature. It is for the pass key module. Try cleaning the chip on your ignition key with some isopropyl alcohol. I'd look for a broken loose ground or a bad battery connection also. Unhook the battery and wait 30 seconds, this will clear the codes. If you have another key try that also.

Good luck,

Code 58 is a known bug in the 92 PCM. Ignore it, especially if the car actually starts.

Noise in the valvetrain? Broken valve spring? Retainer? No other codes? Time for a professional diagnosis, or at least pull your valve covers and inspect. My ultimate suspicion is that your valve timing is incorrect. You missed by a tooth.

Update:

Engine DOES have spark, got it to start one more time, the valves stopped making noise, but after a few seconds of the engine running, it starts missing badly and backfiring, then dies, and you cant start it again. When the engine first starts, it runs fine for 2 or 3 seconds, then misses, backfires, and dies. My guess is its the crank sensor because thats what controls the spark right? Again, any thoughts at all would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

I would have to quess more like a ignition module or computer problem. Do yourself a favor and go to a local junk yard grab a computer " Take the numbers off of yours first " and grab a coil pack. Change the coil pack first, if that doesnt fix it try the computer. This is a cheap way of repairing the problem.

A crank sensor failure wouldn't cause a backfire. The PCM resorts to 'standard' timing when the sensor fails.

It worked ok before you did the timing gear and chain? It backfires? You have a valve timing problem.

Im not necessarily saying the crank sensor failed, but maybe its a little out of adjustment or something to cause it to read wrong? Will, If I were you I'd say the exact same thing to myself about the timing marks not being lined up, but I am POSITIVE that they were lined up EXACTLY. I must have quadruple checked it at least and they were exact! I never even moved the crank or cam after i took the old chain/gears off. And yes the marks were lined up before I took the old chain/gears off.

Only other thing I can think of is that before I put the balancer on, I turned the engine over several times with the starter to "prime" the oil pump. Could this have done anything? Do the timing marks have to be lined up when you start it for the first time?

Also forgot to mention that it does run perfect for like the first 3-5 seconds, then all hell breaks loose. If it was the timing chain it seems like it would never run good. The missing and backfiring gets progressively worse until it just quits even if you keep it reved a little.

just removed the balancer again, and the crank sensor was scratched up by the metal things on the balancer. I must have put the crank sensor in wrong. It looks like the sensor needs to go toward the front of the car more. Could I have possibly damaged the metal things on the balancer that the sensor reads? They dont look bent or anything, but they are shiny where it was rubbing the crank sensor.
