BRAKES....argh... and family fleet breaking down....HELP!!!
 

So today my brakes were acting very funny. They were fine untill i came to this downhill stop sign and i pressed on the brake pedal and it went all the way to the floor it wasnt slowing down very fast and the front left wheel locked up for a foot or so while i was coming to a stop. I thought "OMG my brakes are going out". Being the curious one I am I went farther and they were fine and dandy for another mile or so then it hapened again (without wheel lock-up). I think I am going to unfortunatly have to wait until after vacation (which starts this WED) to take it in to get fixed. Any of you all have any ideas as to what this would be b4 I take it in so i have some idea as to wha to say? Thanks

Oh and by the way this week sucks, i think my moms '00 Park Avenue has a cracked intake cause it eats coolant for lunch (but has yet to get over heated)

AND my dad's 94 Ford F-150 has no driver airbag (not working, but its there), horn doesnt work, and cruise went out too. AND his brakes are vibratting (warped rotors maybe)...

ok so to get 1 drivable auto in my family were gonna try and fix it today...i need help....

Master Cylinder! Mine is the same way mine was seizing up and it applyed the brakes and locked them up on its own when I was just applying the brake. If there is a leak coming from your MC then I would suspect it.

Some possibilities:

I'll list them in order of ease to check
and likelihood. It could also be a combination
of the following too.

Low on brake fluid (leaking somewhere)

Air in the brake hydraulic system.
Look for leaks, overheating due to
a seized or sticking rear wheel
cylinder(s) and or front caliper(s).

If simply bleeding the brake system restores
the pedal fade beware that you may have simple
cured a symptom and not the actual problem.
Further diagnoses will more than likely be required.

Contaminated brake fluid!
i.e. Someone topped it off with
engine oil, transmission fluid
or power steering fluid. (Not good)

Extremely worn pad and or shoe linings.

Seized/sticking emergency brake system.

Leaking and or seized/sticking front caliper pistons
and or caliper not sliding properly (sticking)

Leaking and or seized/sticking rear wheel cylinders.
Combine this with worn shoe linings and
grossly out of adjustment rear brakes
will produce the effect you described.

Badly worn rear backing plates causing shoes to
hang off anchor pin and wheel cylinders.

Defective Master Cylinder

Defective ABS hydraulics

Also check all brake flex hoses for splits, cracks
and composition breakdown from petroleum
contamination. (both external & internal)
I've seen some expand like balloons!
