Brakes
I think that it's about time to replace the front brakes on my SSE. What have you all used successfully for replacement pads and rotors?
|
The First time I did mine a couple years ago, I used AC-Delco Pads and Rotors. Had no problems with them at all, and was very happy (although they are expensive). Just this past spring, I had the pads wore right down to the wear indicators again, but the rotors looked fine. I put Bendix pads on this past time, and have also had no problems. only minor thing I have noticed with the bendix for some reason, is that there is a "squeaking" while its going down the road sometimes. If I put my foot on the brake, or tap the brakes, it stops for a while. I know its brake related because if I stick my head out the window while driving, I can hear the pads touching lightly, etc.. I've ruled out a sticky caliper by going through a few other steps, so I'm just assuming its a characteristic of the pads. Next time around I'll probably replace both the pads and rotors again with Delco's.
I use Caliper grease on EVERYTHING as well. The bolts, back of the pads, piston, brackets, etc... Always seems to help make things work smoother. Hope this helps! :D |
I usually use GM pads & AC Delco rotors. 8) The GM rotors are too expensive!

I switched out my rotors to Powerslot 10.9" rotors that are meant for the Grand Prix but we use the same size brake and brake system. And I put on Performance Friction Ceramic Pads. Cant go wrong.

Brakes
Gotta agree with 99bonnevillese, ceramic pads, and pwr slot rotors are awesome! Very little to no brake dust. Worth every penny, and seem to last longer!

He was also telling me the difference in braking distance and power is pretty impressive as well. I was actually thinking about going with this setup my next time around, but I wanted more people to do it first in the mean time, and provide more feedback! :P
This definetely might be something to consider Jeff, if your looking along the lines of performance braking :) |
NAPA rotors and pads. i get them at a discount since i go there all the time. :P

OK, humor me for a minute because this is probably a stupid question. :?

And if so, are there any real brake upgrades that I could do to get rid of the stock setup? Any thought? PS: Mine also puts out a ton of breakdust. So getting ceramic pads helps? |
I have Bendix semi-metallic pads and shoes in the front and back. The front rotors are el cheapo ones that were only $20 a piece. The back drums are cheap as well, only $25 each. I use Valvoline DOT 4 synthetic because its fairly cheap($5 a quart). I have racked up 15k under harsh conditions (I deliver pizza with the car) and the brakes are holding up well, no rotor warp or anything like that.

I guess the next question is: where is the best place to buy Powerslot rotors from?
