Brake pressure problem. Brake pedal travels to floor
 

I have a 94 Pontiac Bonneville SSE. Recently (10 days ago) I had my assembly hub and rear lower ball joints replaced (dont know if this has anything to do with it) but when I press my brake pedal it compresses to the floor and I have to release it and press it again to stop. When I am stopped I can feel the brake compressing more and the car moving again, at that point I have to raise the brake pedal and compress it to get the car to stop.

Does anyone have an idea of what the problem may be?

HAD the hub replaced? Rear or front? Inspect the inside (back side) of the wheels on all 4 corners, especially the one the 'shop?' worked on. See any brake fluid leaking?

Take it back to the shop. Chances are 99% it's their fault.

I agree. Just too coincidental for it to suddenly start right after that work being done. Does sound like you have a leak somewhere.

Thanks for you help. I am going to check this weekend. I have never had this problem b4 and it does seem like it is their fault. I really hate auto mechanics. I think they sabatoge peoples cars so that they have to bring them back.

I had the the front right and left assembly hubs replaced and rear lower ball joints on both sides

The problem ended up being the Master Cylinder. My trusted Mechanic (he broke collar bone so I was up a creek for a bit) thinks that they could have caused the problem the brake fluid was really dark and there was alot of air in the system so it is good that I went ahead and had the work done. Hopefully I wont have anymore problems in the near future but who can tell with a 12 year old car.

The way you described it here, it was pretty appearant that it was air in the system. I think that if you would have just bled the system, you would have been fine. could have saved yourself time and money by not going back to the shop.

Honestly, I take the mechanic thing kinda offensive just because I am an aspiring mechanic and I never try to screw people over with the jobs they have me do. and a lot of the shops that i know get the stuff right. Just because they messed up, doesnt mean that all mechanics are the same. so for you to say you hate them, I think its pretty offensive. Im sorry, but I do.

Well in this case, if you were to get hurt, they would be liable big time. It sounds to me like they forgot to bleed the brakes after replacing some parts. :shock:

hey chevy boy, i understand ur resentment toward the mechanic comment. and if u are one of the honest and true mechanics, then props to you. my hats off.

but in chillumps defense there are the majority of mechanics that are just plain crooks. but i guess his statement should have said "i hate shady mechanics"

Oh yeah, I understand. I know what he meant, but it still hurt. Its all good though. Mechanics get told crap one way or another, so, I deal with it. Besides, When their cars break down, a lot of them go to mechanics.
