Brake line and proportioning Valve.
 

I developed a leak in the brake line just before the proportioning valve going to the passenger rear tire. to give you a visual, it's located just below the drivers rear door rear beside the drivers front end of the gas tank. I belive that when I reinstalled the tank It grabed on the brake line and since it was rusted, that was enough to develop a leak.

Ok question. I need to replace both brake lines on either side of the proportioning valve ( flare and fittings) but I believe I may need to replace the valve also due to the excessive rust situation. Does anyone have the part number for this valve or where I can get one.

Thanks for the reply lash; I know who my friends are now...... :) I basically broke both brake lines on either side of the proportioning valve since it was very difficult to keep the valve still while I tried to disconnect the lines. The proportioning valve is very rust on the outside so my thoughts were that if it wasn't that expensive I'd just purchase a new one. As it stands now I think I'lljust use it since I couldn't get the part number so I'm going to measure the brake lines and see if I can go to a parts store this week and pick up 2 new lines. One thing that did surprise me was that both the inlet and outlet brake lines seem to be the same diameter, but the threaded ends were different sizes on either end.

Back a few years ago, I replaced them when the brake lines went on a '93. I don't know what the part number is, but I simply went to my parts supplier, told him what I needed and he got them for me. Perhaps, yours will be able to do the same.

As far as the fittings being different sizes even though the lines are the same size, that was likely done to keep them from being switched and assembled incorrectly. It is common for manufacturers to to this to "idiot proof" assembly.

I'm going to pick up the lines today, and see about getting a new proportioning valve. Thanks for the coments people.
