Default Knock Return questions.. 93 SSE

I'm running the scan tool (thanks Bob) to check the temp of the car, and I started looking at the KS Counter, and Knock Return.. here'* what I got..

All this occurs during TCC lockup

Over a 29 minute drive the KS Counter came out at 94

Knock Return while driving 45MPH averages out between 12-13
Knock Return while driving 65MPH sits between 5-7

When TCC isn't applied it'll immediately drop to 0

Is this bad?

Retard, not Return...

You should have no KR while cruising at steady speed. Under normal conditions, one may get a degree or two while maintaining speed under load or up a hill, but on level ground at steady speed, you should have none.

I do agree you need to try some higher octane, but not as a permanent solution. Fill up with premium, or throw a gallon of toluene in. See if your KR goes down. If it does, inspect your plugs, try some seafoam through the intake... If it does not, you may be getting false KR, possibly from large exhaust manifold cracks.

Or... is your SSE supercharged?

Alright I'll do that. I thought the fuel additive brought up the octane for some reason.. Premium it is

Let us know how it goes. Having to use premium in your engine is a band-aid for something else.

Mike is N/A, but with those miles and the lovely weather here in summer, a tank of higher octane might help. I agree though, that there must be somethjing else happpening. :?
