Trans issues?
Okay this past month ive really been paying attention to the way my Trans shifts, as it is now at 251,958 kms and it original. This tranny has been regulary maintained by me and the previous owner. Heres what I notice, once the tranny gets warm it starts to shift harder, as in i can feel each shift point, its not a horrid lurch, but its not nearly as nice as it was when i bought the car at 235,100kms last may. So today i tried something else, i went onto the highway, going down a merge ramp, i was going about 30 mph, i floored it in OD and i could really feel some slipage at each gear interval, everytime it changed its like it hesitates then goes in no problem. I checked the fluid once I got home, its full and bright red, but there is some gray crap that wipes off onto the papertowel each time, when I last had the fluid changed the mechanic noted there was some gray stuff on the bottom of the pan, i noticed this my self a year ago when I changed the fluid in my garage. There was actually a fair ammount, it took a big old towell to wipe it all clean. Im curious as to does this mean my tranny is going? How about Lucas Oil Tranny aditive, does that stuff work?

As far as I know, the "Gray Crap" is normal. I think that'* the metal gunk that gets caught in the magnet each time you drop the pan and clean it. I've heard mostly good stuff about the Lucas Additive. One person that I know that used it actually made a bad transmission worse. But notice I said "bad transmission". It was too far gone by the time he added the stuff.

Might be worth a shot, ive heard it changes the viscosity of the fluid itself, maybe making it thicker so it lubes better?

Matt, Lucas transmission fix is magical. This stuff acually got my car back on the road, due to Tranny problems . I would first change the Tranny fluid and filter then add the Lucas when u top up your tranny with fresh oil

question on transmission on 93 bonneville
I have a 1993 bonneville and was wondering if anyone here can help me out with a question. the transmission has gone out in it, it is a 1993 non supercharged overdrive with electronic traction controll and no one here where i am at can tell me if i can use a non traction controll tranny to replace this one, i can not for the life of me find a direct match anywhere in the area. i can find a repalcement used one out of state but the core charges and shipping are not what i want to pay. the wife loves the car so i have to find a way to fix it for her. does anyone have a suggestion on this? does anyone know or know of a place i can find out what tranny i can use? any help is appreciated.

Welcome to the BC. Next time I would suggest starting a new thread for your particular problem(*). With that said I do not think there is a difference between having Traction Control and not having TC as far as the Transmission itself is concerned. I believe it'* "one size fits all" when it comes to a non-SC'd engine. I'm sure the Gearheads here can give you further info once they wake up. Good Luck.

well... ive never been a fan of putting stuff in the tranny that wasn't made by the manufacturer to go in there... cause they are a strange beast. part mechanical engineering, part luck to make it all work...
but in any event, if others have a good experienece with it, try it out.
gray stuff at the bottom of the pan is metal shavings from your gears. that is not only normal, but it'* a good sign of a healthy transmission. and it'* also the reason we put a magnet in the bottom of the pans
fluid flush sounds like it would do a fair amount of good, just make sure you take it somewhere clean

If i do decide to go with a flush, i will take it to Mr.Lube, they are very clean lol.
