Default Car stumbles on wot

On my 2000 SSEI when I'm just driving along and I get on it or wot it feels like turbo lag. The car will just sit there for about a second or two and then get up and go. What can cause this? It is showing 5 lbs of boost on gauge when I go wot. Also shouldn't there be a faint winning noise from the */c or is that just aftermarket ones? Mine is nice and quiet.
I just bought the car 2 months ago and I'm still learning as this is my first */c car.

Thanks

What speed are you at when you go WOT? I know if you go WOT from around 40 MPH there will be some "lag" to getting the car to really move.

I think the stock intake does a good job of stifeling SC whine. I thikn you should get more boost than that.

What are the conditions when you punch it?

On the highway going around 55 60 and punch it the car feels like it slows down for a second or two and then goes. It almost seems like I go faster if I gradually get in to it ???Just making sure I'm getting the most out of what I have for now.

Thanks

I know that when I gutted my stock airbox and droped in a K&N I saw more boost ( ~ 1psi right b4 shifts). Not to mention I could now hear that beautiful whine
