Default Drivetrain Swap

HI Gang,

I have a '95 SLE that is showing signs of tiredness. I have a new (26mi.) 3800/4T65 from a 2000 Monte Carlo SS with complete wire harness and ECM. My question is:
What things/components should I consider before doing this swap? Some things that come to mind are:
-Trans mounts -Drive axles -TCM -Connectors

Any thoughts out there...Anyone done this before?
Thanks for your knowledge!

You're going from a W body to an H body. Your mounts are totally different, but you may be able to re-use yours.

You could swap out the entire system Tranny/Engine PCM and all, but that would require a lot of effort...

Yep...That'* the plan. The entire system.
It'* sounding like I may need a Control Module for the Transmission, Trans. mounts and some rewiring??

Any gearheads out there to chime in?

The transmissions in our cars do not use Trans control modules... The trans is operated by the PCM both in the 4T60-E and the 4T65-E... But the 4T65-E a more highly controled... There are some of us here that have the 4T60-E and have driven a few 4T65-E'* and don't care for the way the 4T65-E'* act.... But its all in what you want...[/quote]

Does that mean this job will be easier.............or will it mean more wiring dilemma?
I noticed a larger connector on a side case of the trans. is this where the harness goes that connects the Trans to the PCM?

Thanks

The engine is a direct swap, but to use the 4t-65e, you'll need a PCM from a 4t-65e equipped car. Finding a rebuild 4t-60e, or having yours rebuilt will be about as much work as converting to the 65. It'll keep it cleaner, and easier to sell, etc later too IMO.
