BCM stored error codes

I had the day off of work today, and eventually I got bored and ran the bong test on my car. According to this site's 1998 service manual, there were stored error codes in the BCM: two bongs, three bongs, a couple of seconds silence, repeated three times: 2-3 2-3 2-3. Ran all of the "press a button hear a bong" tests, and they all passed.

Now, I haven't ever had any grounding or electrical issues with this car. Once in a blue moon, I'll open the doors and the lights take two to five seconds to come on, but I've never had reason to suspect a corroded ground bus or whatnot.

Can anyone help me diagnose this error code?

EDIT: I should note that every time I run the bong test, I always get the error code. Not sure if I have to clear it manually.

I have to ask and show my ignorance, what is a "bong" test?

And are you saying that it reports on the Electronic Brake Control Module? If that is so, then the error code is in the EBCM, and can't be cleared with a normal scantool, which can clear the PCM. You can try to clear the ECBM by disconnecting the battery cables for an hour or so. Usually you have to go to a dealer with a Tech II, to do anything with the ABS system.

On the other hand, if your ABS light isn't on, it is not unusual for wheel speed sensor history records to be on the EBCM. The WSS wires are very light gauge and susceptible to interrupts Only when their frequency picks up because you have a real problem, will the ABS light go on..

The "bong test" is slang for the MALL diagnostic test.

Not the EBCM, the BCM — Body Control Module. It's the little computer behind the glove box that controls pretty much everything related to the interior of the car, keyless entry, retained accessory power, etc.

I think we're on different pages. Although thanks for the concern; I'm happy to report that my ABS is doing just fine.

You know Bong test. How much it holds. If fire will break it.
:thumbup2 :)

Colin...the correct fix for the 2 3 2 3 2 3 code after all the switches have passed is to close the door and find something else to do.

It's completely normal, I've used the bong test on 10 cars and they all do the same. The FSM is pretty confusing in some aress like this and your car is not exhibiting anything out of the ordinary.

To further back this up, I have had a TechII on my car and it said no MALL codes. I did the bong test and got the same result as you. They might have left something out of the manual.

Good to hear, Bill. Fortunately, things picked up at work again. :-P

That "bong" name is a riot. I wasn't aware of that procedure and I'm mentally anchored on what I have been working on for the past two weeks. Just replaced the Blower Control Module and fan in the '96. This week I'm trying to figure out how to replace (on the cheap) the Electronic Brake Control Module in my ABS system on the '98.

Your post attracted me because I am BCM acronym crazy.
