New Engine
I have a 92 SSE and I need to get a new transmission put in it this summer and I would like to have a new engine put in as well (by "new" I mean rebuilt). Right now I have a NA engine and my question is whether or not I'd be able to have a SC engine put in. The price is going to be about the same so I figured if I could I might as well go with the SC engine. The SC engine has a different casting number than the NA but I didn't know how much of a problem that would present. Any help would be much appreciated.

If you'd like the convert to the L67 from the L27, You'll need a new ECM, I assume new HD mounts... New I/P to watch the boost... The list goes on and on...

Thanks for the reply Damemorder. I read the techinfo article and figured since I was getting a new trans that gettting a whole new drivetrain was my best option. I'll talk to my mechanic about putting in a turbo if that'll be cheaper. I'm gonna have about 5 grand to spend, do you think that would be enough to buy a new drivetrain and drop it in?

I'd suggest if you have the $$ and are doing some mods and want the internals to support the mods (turbo especially) buy a L67 lower end and put the L27 heads on. Better pistons, crank (and rods I believe).
Good luck and keep us notified of how things are coming along.

I'd say do both at once. An HD tranny with L67. You can find a series I cheaper then $5k for sure. You'll need to add some wires at the firewall for the boost stuff, and a boost gauge inside will be good. Otherwise they'll pretty much fit right up.
Otherwise a Series II L67 with 4t-65 HD would be the best. You could find one at around the same price as the series I, and you'd have a highly modifieable car. Use a GTP PCM and you have lots of options for PCM upgrades, and an overall more performance oriented computer.
ww.l67swap.com is a great place to start up. They have all the things you'll need, and are in cohoots with all the vendors that will be able to show you exactly what you need for this.
