this is the second engine ive put in this car, the first motor also melted number cylinder, only things i can think are the same (common to both engines) are the coil packs and im, i used all the sensors from this engine, and the plugs were good when i got the engine. tomorrow i will take coil packs from my 94se and see if that changes anything im still amazed it ran with these melted plugs and didnt throw the po300 code that it was throwing before

Sounds like you have a bad case of preignition. What gas are you using? 93 octane is what you should be using. Can you hear any sounds from the engine? Did you ever give the engine a good going over? Check the valve train.

the engine had tr55 ngk plugs in it when i got it, they looked good, i switched them to ac delco 41-601
the gas im using is 87 octane since this is a small town and all i have access to, i can get 91 octane if i drive 20 miles away and i will stay on this thread the only noise i can hear besides the exaust leak i described earlier in this post is a loud pinging noise at wot with boost gauge on the plus zero side, as long as boost stays on minus side i cant hear the ping |

If you want to find that exhaust leak, you can get a product called Seafoam and suck it into the throttle body using a vacuum source like the one for the brake booster. This will cause massive amounts of white smoke to come out your exhaust, and you should be able to see where the leak is. It will also give the top end of you engine a good cleaning.
|
don't you want to do an oil change fairly quick after beacuse it will get all the junk out of the top end?
|
Yes, a oil change shortly after a seafoam

ok now ive got to figure out how to get 15 gallons of gas removed and the exaust leak is like i posted earlier from the cut off cat converter which was removed before i got the car, ive got a flex pipe stuffed in it, if i can get the car to run good enuff to drive the 50 miles to the muffler shop ill have it repaired, thanks to all who helped...ill drain gas put in new plugs when i get home in the morning .
|
glad we could help you out, hopefully yours is different but the muffler shop that did my set up required that cars had a cat on them before they would do any work, not sure if its a local law or what
